Danke Alexandra!

Hands are very important, too...in understanding a person.

True, Heather... and together with the face, they are the only non-covered parts of a clothed person. Jochen, this portrait and the whole series is so stunning, so strong and intense - there is something about them that photography simply can't achieve.

erinnert mich an das bild "paulus eremita" von ribera im wallraf-richartz-museum in köln.

This reminds me of Riberas or Bagliones ciaroscuro..."Rembrandt lighting"! Isn't the term also used in describing the effects in the lighting of photography? bravo, bravissimo!

Jochen, could you provide your audience with a little background information about your manner of hanging? Or does it come under trade secrets?
Jochen Hein wrote on 26. October 2007, 15:00:15:
Thank you all so much!
@ Peter: If there are any secrets here I´d like to reveal them – you all help me with this.
About hanging (not sure if I understand your question right): all persons are done in original lifesize, the paintings are hanging 40 cm above ground, level of the ground the people are standing/sitting on is 20 cm above the ground, what means you won´t see their feet (although most af the person is visible in your head only anyway) and they appear like on a samll stage, when you approch the painting.
So they are just lightly raised – on the other hand still fragile, because the lifesize of the heads appear smaller on 2D than in real life. Already a subtle turning of the head gives you an impression of the volume of the head in 3D. It´s said that a 10-15% raise of size is levelling that in a painting. But I like the intimicy that comes with the slightly smaller impression on the person if you are standing head to head.
I´m still talking about the hanging, because you cannot deal with all these questions like size, format, distances seperatly. So the format of each painting in proportion to the portrait itself and the distances between each work or to the ground took long considering, before I did the first in this series.
Hope you all will be able to check out weather this works by seeing them all togeather in original some day. Thanks again!
