Biography

The development of Lothar Mattejat is based on a long experience in the Art - Underground.
These experiences made a widerange symbiosis between modern lifestyle and the sources of human being, possible.
L.M., whose personal roots reach to Finnland uses a multimedia palet of expressions, wich reflects his way of understanding and his personal priorities.
The complexity of his works find its language through his use of Symbols with who he realizes a way of artwork wich is passing every existing frontier of art.
At the age of 16 he left home tried different jobs like nursery garden assistent, dockworker, photograpers assistent and roadie.
He start study Art by H.Muench, who was uncurably ill. L.M. left Hamburg and made an extensiv Trip to the African Continent. Back in Hamburg he started to present his creativ range of artwork to the public for the first time in cooperattion with the local Band MASK FOR, L.M. realizes experimental sound and vision projects. He toured throughout Europe and designed the record cover for them and other bands. He worked as stagedesigner and started to realize movie and video projects.
1987 he ignites public kontroversies with the AKTIONSRAUM BEETSWEG 21 which was established by L.M. and the Filmmaker Giuseppe Gagliano. He made first installations and got a heavy reaction from a spectacular Bolivian money combustion in town.

1988 he was taking a history ficture for his idea of living and a symbol of livestyle Till Eulenspiegel .
In the same year, he established with G.G the TRASCH - CENTER. Most of the Members of this artgroup, have been permanently in trouble with the established society, to show up different way´s of progressive engagement, to develop a freeminded space, for the future and all those, who are coming behind.
Experimental Art & Music was the main direction of the work. Even sometimes, the public reactions demanded the goverment, to stop them. In the year 1989 L.M. seperated more and more from the TRASCH - CENTER, still attacking the geometric brain structures, and cultural emptyness of the people, reflecting the german mentality in a extraordinary art-contex.The protest of settled artist followed the way of their action. Many exhibition´s, concert´s and performances are done bevor they channel there activitis in a monoment out of concret BLOCK / LOCH on the beach of Hamburg.

1990 he starts to travel in Europe, Canada and India.

2001 he came back to Germany and made a mature collection of his works on travel.
