Every so-called great civilization (democracy) has slaves, many of them willing servants, hoping to be catered to one day soon!
As fast as technological industrial civilization advances it degrades on it's fringes even faster, affecting extremely the animals, nature based cultures, insects and other organisms.
I see an end in sight in the form of a depletion of Nature!
BUT! don't believe that Earth is dying, she is a living entity, her consciousness is way beyond our comprehension, and yes a part of her is dying, our part the massive industrial civilization we all helped to create!
