top He Loves Me/Not

Theme for this assignment was weddings.

To me this speaks to the ridiculous "two months salary" rule or how some people think that the bigger the diamond, the more they love you.

I did it on post-it notes because as an installation of sorts, they reflect the petals of the flower, which echo the text. During critique the post it second from the right kept falling off, perfect. I also find that some people, myself included, see marriage as almost disposable. That people go into it only to toss it away non-chalantly. Anyone remember Britney Spears and her little annulment?

Another reason for the post-it notes is the idea of the constant reminder. You write a note to remind yourself... diamond companies "write" us reminders around certain times of the year to buy your special someone some diamonds to remind them how much you love them. I think it's garbage.

The average marriage is 3-7 years with the divorce rate almost 50%. Does't give me much hope of a long lasting marriage or a marriage as seen by my parents or grandparents who've been together for a very long time.

It's pretty pessimistic, I know. But this is my opinion on the topic. I do hope it changes in a few years if I meet the right person.

top Helvetica

I took a quote from the movie that made me laugh. The designer said that if he sees something written in Helvetica it's just like saying not to bother as it's a boring font that everyone uses. Seems true as since watching it I'm seeing Helvetica everywhere.

Put the text on a found image of some cool paper. Also figured out how to make my text look like it's actually printed on the thing, which is cool.
