The first embroidery project I've done using this technique of embroidery instead of cross stitch. The pattern was hand drawn using one of Sublime Stitches' patterns as a reference.
The text is a Karl Pilkington poem in my own writing stitched over. If you can't read it it says "it would be spiteful to put a jellyfish in a trifle."
Driving back to Edmonton, I usually put on The Ricky Gervais show. It kills 2 hours of the 3 hour drive and makes me burst out laughing, probably looking like a mental case to other drivers.
I was listening to season two of the podcast and one of the sent in questions for Karl asked him what he thought about multiple dimensions. Of course the Elephant Man was brought up and Karl asked "Was he [Merrick] alright but just in the wrong dimension?"
I of course laughed, but it's a good point if you believe in multiple dimensions.
Figured I'd do a little drawing to match.
Though, this also reminds me of one of the most amazing West End shows I saw in London a few years ago, which was The Elephant Man. It played at the Whitehall Theatre and there was maybe 60 seats in that small venue. The actor who played Merrick [Marc Pickering] had no makeup at all, just the walk and his way of speaking.
It's hard to explain but I was in tears for some of it. Though I suppose it's easier for such a thing to happen when you're 5 feet away from the action.
I'm really enjoying colouring with the tablet.
This is Ricky Gervais in about 1983 when he was in a band called Seona Dancing. Every time I think of New Romantic, which was a fashion style at the time, I think of really bright colours like pink and yellow. I'm not exactly sure what New Romantic was to be honest, apart from ghastly suits and makeup.
Possibly an addition to the Paul is Dead t-shirt series.
No text on it as I didn't play around with any, I like it on it's own.
The walrus was suggested by my Uncle D.
Spread as presented in class.
Critique:
Strong.
Can see it in specific magazines: GQ, Esquire etc...
Action.
Dynamic.
Engaging.
Clothing control.
Big improvement.
Applying things learned.
Good locations.
Good composition.
Very different from previous work.
Fits well in frame.
If the fence is edited out it could pass for a beach if kept in black and white.
Ambercrombie & Fitch
More of the figure on the right?
Doesn't look like Calgary [France was suggested]
Detail in pants needed?
Smoke and match needed?
Interesting with smoke.
Sandwich board distracting.
What I've taken from critique to the left image is I cropped on the right hand side a small bit to the edge of the window. There were some architectural lines that were deemed distracting. I dodged the smoke around the models head to bring it out more. I also burned down the sandwich board to try and have it recede and got rid of a couple little spots in the windows.
Mags I looked at before shooting:
Esquire US/UK, Nylon, Details, GQ US/UK, Fantastic Man & Man About Town.
Yet another shot I like from Big Rock. I didn't choose this one for presentation because I didn't think it worked as well with the half-suit shot I chose as the other one. Plus I'm unsure about the really dark background due to a very blue sky that day.
Having a go at t-shirt design for one of my classes.
Paul is Dead comes from the hoax in the late 60's that Paul McCartney had been killed and replaced by a look a like and a sound a like.
This one doesn't really scream death or anything, I just picture it as a trendy thing that some people might wear if they are in the know.
I didn't actually print the shirt, thanks to magic in photoshop I super imposed the design onto a found image of a white shirt.

Not much death going on in this one apart from the one bird. I used blackbirds for that one song he wrote. I'm sure you know it.

This is the album cover! Front and back of the booklet are my shots. Both were taken with a Holga. The cover was taken with very expired film hence the lack of saturation and a bit of grain overall. Both photos are double exposures as well.
I haven't listened to any tracks yet but I am so flattered to have been asked to lend my photos over for such a thing.
Fourth in the series of a potential five.
fancy paper and donkey figure in a 5x7" shadow box. [SOLD]
has been for sale for some time, as you have seen. The maintenance and ongoing development to keep our non-profit and idealistic platform for contemporary art running and safe from hackers etc. costs money that is no longer there. Because of small investments that are necessary now and the running costs, we will have to shut down with a heavy heart at the beginning of summer on June 21.
