Frida Kahlo b.1907 d.1954, (aged 47), born in Mexico. Naive folk art painter, revolutionary, icon for the feminist and LGBTQ+ movement. Known for her many portraits, self portraits, and works inspired by the nature and artefacts of Mexico. Kahlo has been described as a surrealist or magical realist. Married to Diego Rivera, prominent Mexican painter of large frescos that help established the Mexican and international mural movement. Andre Breton, french surrealist arranged her first solo exhibition in New York in 1938 where Georgia O’Keeffe attended; Exhibited in Paris in 1939 with help of her friend Marcel Duchamp. The Louvre purchased one o her paintings, making her the first Mexican artist to be featured in their collection. Frida was featured on a cover of Vogue Paris. She remained painting and teaching at her house La Casa Azul until her health deteriorated and was unable to continue.

Nahui Olin, b.1893 d.1978, (aged 84), born in Mexico. Model, poet, painter actress. Born Carmen Mondragon lived in Paris were she met Picasso, Matisse and poet Jean Cocteau. Her beauty was described as mesmerising and erotic, and apparently first woman to wear a miniskirt in Mexican catholic scene. She was posing for painter Diego Rivera, and photographers Tina Modotti and Edward Weston. Her lover Gerald Murillo “Dr. Atl” named her Nahui Olin, an Aztec symbol for earthquake. Nahui is considered a woman who both embraced and shaped the 1920’s and 1930’s in Mexico through her activism and creativity. In 2019 the Spanish novelist Juan Bonilla published "Totalidad sexual del Cosmos", inspired on her life. In 2020, this novel won the National Prize for Literature in Spain.
