top The Wren

the other late afternoon our cat was nearly having this wren for a snack! We tried to save it's life...we failed! I read all about the poor wren...accused to betray by singing....Chirst in the garden, St Stephan etc. The myth, it flew higher then the Eagle by sitting on Eagles back and then in the race flew above eagle! A small bird full of song! My little homage to little/big Wren!

top Frenchy the Hedgehog

February 2, 'Candelora' - both Pagan and Sacred Catholic (the presentation of Christ in the temple) Holiday....Outside our door today, after the snow, enters Frenchy-the-Hedgehog, with one sick eye. Now he is inside with us, healing...The animal totem: "big surprise in little package", the Greeks and Romans believed they had solar power, because their spines reach out toward the sun, and their spines are shaped like the sun rays, while their bellies touch mother earth.
A gift to us today!

In America it is also Ground Hog day:
In Scotland the tradition may also derive from an English poem:
As the light grows longer
The cold grows stronger
If Candlemas be fair and bright
Winter will have another flight
If Candlemas be cloud and rain
Winter will be gone and not come again
A farmer should on Candlemas day
Have half his corn and half his hay
On Candlemas day if thorns hang a drop
You can be sure of a good pea crop
