REAL LIFE L.A.B.
2006
Temporary, multimedial Housingproject. Five Cubes consisting out of 30 wooden frames (213qcm) covered with plywood. These walls can be connected by special hinges. Furniture and Real-Life Arcvhive.
Eversince I finished working on the early, usable work “Zwanzig Würfel” (Twenty Cubes – 1993) I had the desire to create another version in the dimensions regarding the proportions of the body. In 2006 six I used the idea to create five, even larger cubes for the outdoor exhibition “sculpture@CityNord”. These cubes were constructed out of thirty plywood walls (with an edgelength of 213 cm and an 6 cm woodframe construction underneath) that could be connected with a special kind of hinges. The furniture of each cube suggested a different use: One cube to be (sleep), one to act (work / office), one to consume (things (kitchen)), one to communicate (living- or dining room ) and one to think (Real-Life Archive). The archive was the border between private and public: Living within the exhibition was not ment to be the exhibit. I was aiming for a rather incidental, although permanent contact with an audience – right on the border of artspace and real life space, private- and public place – illustrating the possibilities of organizing life creatively beyond social conventions as an example. The content of the archive added many diffent kinds of examples of real life art, philosophy and creative life organization, political opposition, and cival movements. From april to september there was a brought variety of events: Public screenings, concerts, parties, dinners and discussions.
has been for sale for some time, as you have seen. The maintenance and ongoing development to keep our non-profit and idealistic platform for contemporary art running and safe from hackers etc. costs money that is no longer there. Because of small investments that are necessary now and the running costs, we will have to shut down with a heavy heart at the beginning of summer on June 21.
