About me
Barbara Lindell (Barbaras)
- Biography
Barbara Lindell (1960) is an artist from Gothenburg, Sweden. She has studied photography and fine arts in Sweden (Konstfack, Stockholm and The School of Photography, Gothenburg University), in the Netherlands (Rietveld Academie), Mexico City (Academia San Carlos) and Costa Rica (Facultad de Bellas Artes). She has also worked as an assistant to one of the grand old masters of photography and Hasselblad photo award winner, Manuel Alvarez Bravo in Mexico.
The Latin American influences are quite visible in her art. Barbara is mostly working with photo based art, but is also using other techniques. The result is an intriguing mixture of forms, symbols, colours and materials depending on the story she wants to tell and the theme she is currently occupied with. She often builds installations, and uses light and sound, sometimes even smell and temperature, to create a special environment for her art, trying to
communicate with and to all the senses.
Barbara is an artist with a big interest in people, different cultures, languages and social and political issues. She has lived in different countries and worked for many years with peace and democracy for several NGOs (Non Governmental Organizations). She has been working in war zones for many years, which has influenced her art, giving it a special expressive tone.
”In my art I try to express the essence of what happens in my own and other peoples life’s” she says.”I’m not afraid to confront nor the beauty, joy and happiness nor the difficult, complex and unexplainable things that happen in life and in the world. Therefore my images can be seen as strong and ambiguous”
Exhibitions, publications, representations etc
Barbara Lindell has participated in many exhibitions, both individual and collective ones, since her first exhibition in 1975 (at age 15) in her then home town, Mölnlycke. She has exhibited in many places, for example in Gothenburg, Stockholm, Lund, Malmö, Jönköping, Oslo, Berlin, Kassel, Amsterdam, Etten-Leur (NL), Oosterhout (NL), Mexico City, New York, Tallinn and St Petersburg.
She has also done a public art project in 26 places in the Netherlands and published two books.
has been for sale for some time, as you have seen. The maintenance and ongoing development to keep our non-profit and idealistic platform for contemporary art running and safe from hackers etc. costs money that is no longer there. Because of small investments that are necessary now and the running costs, we will have to shut down with a heavy heart at the beginning of summer on June 21.

Hi Barbara
The Northern Summer light is soft, delicate and very inspiring. Our Summer can be very bold and harsh - those sunburnt colours unless we have a good wet season then the summer colours have a spectrum of greens, blues, blue-greys, reds, oranges and ochres.

Oh, I didn't realize you live on that side of our planet... well we are in the midle of the summer here - even if it's colder than normal. All the green and the mid summer light inspires...

Thanks for your kind wishes. Summer is a long way away. Yesterday it was minus 6 degrees Celcius. This morning it was minus 5 degrees Celcius. We are not quite mid Winter yet in Queensland, Australia. I have a big gas heater in the studio and it is comfortable to work in and create.
