One could argue that industrial production could be maintained and yet scaled down, leaving ecosystems and non-industrial peoples some room to co-exist. Firstly, this proposal invites the question of why civilization should determine its own boundaries, instead of the victims of its predation. Secondly, there are no historical examples of production economies that do not expand, mainly because they must expand after depleting the resources available to them at any given time. The structural complexity and hierarchy of civilization must be refused, along with the political and ecological imperialism that it propagates across the globe. Hierarchical institutions, territorial expansion, and the mechanization of life are all required for the administration and process of mass production to occur. Only small communities of self-sufficient individuals can coexist with other beings, human or not, without imposing their authority upon them.
The support of industrial society is act against life, a genocidal act against the original nature-based peoples of the world, also an act of speciesism. This comes in the forms of capitalism, communism, socialism and some groups of anarchist who in fact consume animal products, alcohol, marijuana and other unnecessary products. Many people desire an existence free of coercive authority, where all are at liberty to shape their own lives as they choose for the sake of their own personal needs, values, and desires. For such freedom to be possible, no individual person can extend his or her sphere of control upon the lives of others without their choosing. Many who challenge oppression in the modern world strive toward their conception of a “free society” by attempting to merely reform the most powerful and coercive institutions of today, or to replace them with “directly democratic” governments, community-controlled municipalities, worker-owned industrial federations, etc. Those who prioritize the values of personal autonomy or wild existence have reason to oppose and reject all large-scale organizations and societies on the grounds that they necessitate imperialism, slavery and hierarchy, regardless of the purposes they may be designed for.
The disappearance of the working class as a defining force in the struggle against capital we will also witness the disappearance of the concept of the crisis, once considered to be a precise moment in the future where economic collapse and disorder were to herald in the revolution. There was the belief, even among many anarchists, that one day this would occur, it was only a question of time, so all that we had to do was to spread anarchist ideas and propaganda whilst awaiting the great event. We now know that crises do not exist, not because the world is in perfect order but because, on the contrary, it is in complete disorder. And if capital is surviving by adapting to the chaos of economic reality, we cannot talk about programming or economic ‘laws’, or think of the class struggle as something that has ‘alternate phases’. The great difference between Nature Based Spirituality and human centric organized religions, (this includes politics, science-technology, entertainment, fashion and design, every aspect of contemporary industrial society, the health and welfare of mind and body) is in the inter-personal relationships. Nature Based Spiritual societies had a practice that taught respect for all beings. Realize, Nature Based Spiritual peoples had a "system" that produced a society in which there were no locks on doors, no orphanages, no need for oaths, and no hungry people, no exploitation - just a necessity for survival, and the practical and spiritual need to maintain the interpersonal relationship with animal and nature (of course there will be the conventional and insecure civ-man to contradict, with an overdeveloped sense of entitlement to be right and rational). Nature Based Spirituality taught that sharing one's goods with another human being or animal was the highest form of behavior. These people had tenaciously held to this tradition of sharing their goods with other people in spite of all attempts by invaders; organized religions, government agencies (police or military), and schools to break them of this custom.
And then industrial society came along and substitute "giving" for sharing. There was only one catch; giving meant, giving your time to work and bosses, in exchange for currency and not just to charities, which industrial soceity created, a poverty. But to the consumerist society, and not "sharing" with other people or animals and definitely not sparing nature from our human greed. Giving, in the modern sense, is simply a method of controlling the masses, and convincing them they are individual, that also have a personal preference and a freedom of choice, collectively and unconsciously, a form of institutionalized selfishness.
Animals, free-living tribal people and Nature, ultimately Earth, she is sacrificed at the alter our massive hedonistic society!
