About me
Karina Devine (KarinaDevine)
My work is contemporary and extremely detailed. Each colour is carefully considered and mixed. The layering of detail and pattern takes patience and delicate brushwork. My main artistic influences are Gustav Klimt and FriedensreichHundertwasser. My paintings tell stories of my thoughts and experiences in life. They are heavily loaded with personal symbols but I hope my viewers find them uplifting and positive. I started experimenting with the application of sequins on my paintings as a way to communicate the richness and splendour of the parts of my life that still bring me joy – my home, my family and my friendships.
- Biography
I was born in Queensland and spent my childhood in Hervey Bay. When I was twelve I went to boarding school in Brisbane. I was very homesick and missed my family but survived those sad years by spending a lot of time in the art and dance studios at the school. I completed school with a large folio of work and was accepted to study Visual Arts at the Darling Downs Institute of Advanced Education in Toowoomba. There was no doubt after completing my study, with a major in ceramics, that I would pursue an art career. The defining years for my art practise were spent in Western Queensland in the tiny towns of Drillham and Miles. As a secondary school teacher I was transferred to the country and stayed in that area for 16 years. I experienced many changes and challenges living on a farm, working, having a family and continuing to make art. The style of my painting at this stage was very much influenced by my hand painted pottery business. My inspiration was my garden, my home and my friendships.

has been for sale for some time, as you have seen. The maintenance and ongoing development to keep our non-profit and idealistic platform for contemporary art running and safe from hackers etc. costs money that is no longer there. Because of small investments that are necessary now and the running costs, we will have to shut down with a heavy heart at the beginning of summer on June 21.
