Christopher Rodrigues (abstractruth)

I use the computer and Photoshop as my sole mediums to create images that are the basis for three ongoing series of works -- Planets, Islands, and Still Lifes. Employing techniques that resemble collage and painting by "borrowing" pixels of color from images found on the Internet using search engines, I entirely absent the camera from the artistic process. My “photographs” honor Nature while celebrating Technology, an important concern for me in an age when humans are struggling to find a balance with the planet that sustains them.  I approach my work as a “regenerative” project in that it will change in a manner similar to how the Earth is diversifying in the face of global warming and other cataclysmic events.

The early stages of altering my images, which will be most noticeable in the plants, trees, and flowers, will take place over the earliest numbers in the edition.  So while the edition of each work will remain fixed, the images that constitute the beginning numbers will differ from each other in modest ways.  As the project advances, the deserts, swamps, forests, plains, oceans, and tundra will expand, each needing its own new, unique vegetation to conform to its vastly changed environment.

My research and direct observation of how Nature has solved its problems provides inspiration as I try to resolve the aesthetic and social issues this project presents.  Through my art, I have found a way to showcase Nature's all-encompassing beauty while at the same time expressing my genuine concern for its preservation and safety.
