David Corcoran, was born in 1967 Seattle Washington, USA. He grew up in Boston Massachusetts.
He began drawing in grade school where he and friends enjoyed illustrating dinosaurs, whales, space ships and military hardware but their favorite was what they called The Bionic Head consisting of a head profile filled with gears and circuitry. At age 10 David discovered his penchant for more advanced projects when he made a stop action film with the family's super 8 camera, employing a robot action figure including a fiery special effect.
Two strokes of luck kept David on the artistic path. First the house was not burned to the ground in that last film experiment and second was strong arts and crafts education in the public schools. .
On school trips to the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, David was hugely impressed by, the old master oil paintings, the collections of ancient art and artifacts and the ceiling frescos depicting angels and cherubs. In high school art classes David's talents for drawing, painting and sculpture were pointed out and encouraged by some great teachers.
After High school David spent a summer hitch-hiking around Europe reinforcing his passion for art and developing new ones for architecture, urban planning and industrial design. Returning to Boston David began an apprenticeship in stained glass leading to six years working in the that field. During that period he began studying at The School of the Museum of Fine Arts spending his junior year in Paris and graduating from the Museum School in 1992.
Since then David has completed numerous paintings, painted several public murals, produced a series of furniture designs, worked as a stone sculptor, set builder and tried his hand at music, performance art, improv comedy and acting.
His artwork has been exhibited in New York, Paris, Boston, Vermont and California.
David currently lives in Los Angeles.
