About me
Kathy Toth (kathytoth)
- Biography
“I photograph what I do not wish to paint and I paint what I cannot photograph” - Man Ray
Kathy Toth is from Toronto, Canada and studied Philosophy, Ethics and Psychology at York University. Kathy became involved with photography after years of being a realist painter. Kathy currently maintains an artistic practice of abstract painting, photography and multimedia. Since 2004 most of her work has examined the changing cultural, social and economic landscape with a particular focus on the ground effects of the built environment and it's intersection with culture.
Kathy's work has appeared in numerous solo and group exhibits and publications in Canada, United States, and Holland.
Artist Statement
Working between two seemingly different disciplines, my visual arts practice attempts to bridge my interests in human psychology and emotions, history, personal experience and visual expression into works of art. I am engaged in exploring and capturing the very basic, salient emotions that are universally understood across the barriers of language, culture and economics which are timeless. Subject matter that is generally neglected, forgotten, and ephemeral are areas I enjoy examining since we generally fail to find value in the simple things right in front of us. Whether it’s the more mysterious colors, forms and patterns I paint, or the more direct photography I practice, I aim for my work to engage the viewer on an emotional or intellectual level to pose further questions and examination.

has been for sale for some time, as you have seen. The maintenance and ongoing development to keep our non-profit and idealistic platform for contemporary art running and safe from hackers etc. costs money that is no longer there. Because of small investments that are necessary now and the running costs, we will have to shut down with a heavy heart at the beginning of summer on June 21.
