Tina Modotti b.1896 d.1942, (45 years old), born in Italy. Photographer, model, actress, revolutionary, political activist. Mentored by photographer Edward Weston (known for his highly focused black-and-white images), Modotti captures scenes and personalities of the social context in Mexico in the 1920’s. She became a member of the Mexican Communist Party. Partner of Cuban activist Julio Mella. She was exiled from Mexico, spending years in Moscow where she engaged in various missions until moving to Spain and after the collapse of the Republican movement due to Civil War, she returned to Mexico. Modotti photographed multitude of intellectuals, political radicals and communists. Mexico was always her Muse. Poet Pablo Neruda composed Modotti’s epitaph. Madonna has become a major collector of Modotti's work.
