Artist Statement
The paintings function as visual models for the creation of temporary structures, while the structures stand as models for the paintings and vice versa. I seek to set boundaries, to define, to clarify and to make accurate statements. At the same time I experience from within a continuing impulse to wander, to move, to drift away. The desire to connect and to unify floating parts and open edges drives me to acts of linking and of creating new relations. I aspire to create living spaces in which there is no distance between a person and the environment. Moving about, I mark, sketch and weave the space around me. The very action of marking and of making connections functions as a metaphor for TIKUN and for a search for unity. I seek to create continuity, to bring together personal and collective history, to combine my private life with social actuality. My work points out in the direction of a future that carries traces and memories of a distant past.
