Biography

Reza is somewhat of a hybrid, suspended between the Present physical world combined with the thoughts and curiosities of the anticipated future. He often finds himself wondering about life, the after life, the creative force behind the reasons as to why we are here which directly translate into the images prevalent in his art.

The main attributes of his paintings come from a place in his psyche that he has not been able to articulate with words, however he tackles it with complete fearlessness and improvisation similar to a jazz musician, yet his approach remains solid. His images convey stories of love and loss, regret, humor, despair, hope, courage, darkness and light. As of now, the constant theme prevalent in his craft has been the randomness of the stories and images that perplex his mind; hence the series "Random Thoughts".

Reza’s work can scare and make you laugh at the same time. His latest style of work shows screaming, disgruntled or startled adult babies, an unborn fetus or alien looking creatures. These images reflect voices from the deepest parts of our essence. They are a visceral aspect of human emotion yearning to belong to something - to be heard, noticed, and loved. They represent our private thoughts, wishes, and experiences - the sum of all that we feel in our waking hours, as well as in our inexplicable dreams.
You can find elements of fear or joy, social anxiety and uncertainty, hope and despair, love and hate mixed in with a good supply of humor and sarcasm perhaps very familiar to the western world, all in one painting.
His style of painting lands somewhere among outsider, pop, folk, urban, brut, contemporary and naive art. His influences arise from everyday life, pop culture, old world wisdom, children drawings and comic book characters as well as Eastern calligraphy and culture.
His works have been featured in several television shows, hung permanently
at the UCLA Medical center, and displayed in many private collections
