I am fascinated by the idea of the chimera--the fusion of two seemingly unrelated objects or creatures. All the pieces I have made involving animal parts come from animals I found already dead. (Fun fact: this is the first piece I made after graduating art school.)

top Reassembled Raccoon

This piece is about rebirth and regeneration, leaving the old behind and soaring into the new. The bones in the lower corner are from the legs of the animal. I won't go into details, but these bones went through a lot to get where they are now. All the pieces I have made involving animal parts come from animals I found already dead.

top Incarnation 5

Incarnation 5 and 6 are a diptych that came out of a period of separation and grief in my life.

top Incarnation 4

This is my most recent addition to the Incarnation series, completed at the beginning of July. Again I am dancing around the idea of people in the process of being created, in their incompleteness shaping and effecting one another. I was a little trepidatious as I began this painting because I knew the uterus would make some uncomfortable, but in the end I came to the conclusion that if I am painting a series that is intimately involved with the body, identity, and formation of the Self, I can't be shy about things like uteri. Such is life.
